BlogCrush – Grace Boyle

16 June 2009 6 Comments

Every week I’ll be updating The Webb with a little ditty about my most recent blogcrush – a blog that I follow frequently and find inspiration, laughter and deep thoughts from. You know who they are, those bloggers that you’ve never even met but you feel a strange connection…you almost have a little crush on them? These are most definitely folks on my blog roll, and if you are reading and subscribing to The Webb they should be on yours, too

I’m not sure when it was that I was introduced to Small Hands, Big Ideas but I definitely appreciate whatever karmic act I fulfilled to add Grace Boyle’s blog to my Google Reader. I don’t even know what the first post I read was, but the first one I really remember was about men and women and their separate behaviors, especially in the online arena (sound familiar?!) And in what is seeming to become a #BlogCrush trend, Grace was also featured on Ryan Stephens’ Top 10 Gen Y Blogs for June.

Why Small Hands, Big Ideas? Well, Grace says on her About Page that it’s just what it sounds like…she really does have small hands, but to counteract her ideas are big! It’s not just Grace’s ideas that are big, it is her life. She lives life on the grand scheme, taking chances and proclaiming to the blogosphere that she can, in fact, do anything. Like so many of my BlogCrushes online, Grace also has a pretty rockin job at lijit, where they provide my fantastical search box tool located to the right of The Webb. Plus, she’s Irish-Italian (well SHE’S Italian-Irish) and us eatin’-drinkin’-fightin’-sarcastic girls gotta stick together!

Many times while I’m looking over drafts to find something new to post, I’ll meander on over to Grace’s blog just to find a new post on a topic I was just thinking about covering. It’s like this girl is inside my brain sometimes! She also has the Small Hands, Big Ideas version of a BlogCrushing, her Friday Linky Love series. The series covers her top 5-10 posts from her reader over the course of the week. A great way to check out some new bloggers based on a referral from a great source.

If you are looking for a 20-something woman in a tech start-up who loves not only digital media but also draws inspirations from daily life and somehow manages to find connections amongst it all, check out the Small Hands, Big Ideas blog.

Who is your blogcrush in the blogosphere? Make sure to update it on your blog on Tuesdays! Wanna learn how #BlogCrush works? Check out the guide

First of all, I love this concept, and I might just have to try it out myself! Also, I would definitely say that Grace is one of my blogcrushes too. She's a wonderful person, and a very talented writer. Great pick!

Oh, I love Grace too. She often provides inspiration for my own posts and I always feel like we're reading each other's minds too :) Great crush.

Elisa, I'm blushing! Thanks for honoring Small Hands, Big Ideas and also citing such great information (that sometimes I don't even realize about my own content).

I'm so happy we could connect and you're very right–Irish/Italian (either way;) girls gotta stick together. Thanks again for writing this, I'm very honored :)

I love Grace's blog and like you Elisa, I didn't find it until it started showing up on every other ballot or so for the top 10 Gen Y blogs.

Not just women though, anyone can extract tons of valuable information from Grace's blog.

Every time I read something like this I feel less insecure about the fact that there's so many new bloggers getting highlighted instead of the same old blogs (who are perceived by many to be the "best.")

Sam – Most definitely! I think as a blogging community we need to do an even better job of directing people to quality writers in a way that isn't just a blogroll. I'm looking forward to your first #BlogCrush!

Rebecca – And thus it's not really any surprise that you were my first 2 profiled ladies!

Grace – It's easy to get caught up in the "work" of updating, designng, and keeping our blogs current. One of my favorite things about the #BlogCrush series is that I get to go back thru old posts and bio's and various things to portray bloggers as they are seen from the outside perspective. And thanks to you for writing such a great blog!

Ryan – There are a lot of quality "new bloggers" that fly under the radar, so I'm really grateful to YOU for your Top 10 Gen Y Blogs. I actually started subscribing to a few that I hadn't before and have been pleasantly surprise. As for the same old blogs that are "the best," I think a big part of that is that they have been around for longer, have built more of a following, and have created a reputation that precedes them. There are some bloggers (Penelope Trunk, for example) that I have in my reader and really TRY to love and crush on, but I just can't. Then there are others (Seth Godin) that I eat up.

Elisa – you continue to be spot on with the blogs you feature. Grace is an amazing writer, thought provoker, and woman. I've yet to see a post she's written that hasn't inspired me to take a step back, think, and respond. Anyone who can continually engage their readers to the point where they WANT to start a discussion is doing something right. Cheers to Grace, she has been the source of my inspiration many times.
