BlogCrush – Jackie Adkins
Every week I’ll be updating The Webb with a little ditty about my most recent blogcrush – a blog that I follow frequently and find inspiration, laughter and deep thoughts from. You know who they are, those bloggers that you’ve never even met but you feel a strange connection…you almost have a little crush on them? These are most definitely folks on my blog roll, and if you are reading and subscribing to The Webb they should be on yours, too.
I started talking about redesigning my blog far too publicly around Labor Day weekend. It took me approximately three weeks (and that was under some pretty intense duress.) Course for this week’s #BlogCrush, the entire website redesign was announced, planned and implemented before I could figure out how to thread my comments. I first met Jackie Adkins when he started following the Webb on a mention from a former #BlogCrush. And even though he beat me to a re-launch, Jackie’s new site The Curbside Marketer is one of my favorite places for real life discussion on marketing and business concepts.
While I missed the official announcement of the new site, as soon as I was able to check out the new domain (www.jackieadkins.com) I absolutely loved the new aesthetic. Even though Jackie is “just” a recent (2009) graduate of UNC, he is proof positive that the young professional generation is still very knowledgeable in the business and marketing arena. The great thing about The Curbside Marketer, however, is that he doesn’t write it like a complicated and unreadable textbook. He takes these “lofty” concepts and brings them to a level where they are both interesting and accessible to people. A sports buff himself, I’m a fan of anyone who can teach via athletics. Really, Jackie takes the time through his posts to Dare all of us To Be Great.
Recently Jackie also started including his own series on the site, Analogous Friday. Now don’t feel bad if you are looking at that thinking “What the hell does Analogous mean?” I’m a pretty smart cookie and wordie to boot and I didn’t know immediately either. When I looked it up I had one of those “Duh” moments. Analogous means something showing an Analogy (I know…”Duh.”) Anyways, his Analogous Fridays crack me up. He finds some of the most random, amusing, and generally unrelated videos on the web (he’s kinda like a Tosh 2.0) and manages to find connections to marketing, business, and social media. He started by teaching us how bacon is good for marketing, and has since pontificated on the art of lifting weights and being Dude Perfect. My favorite still lies in the greatest QB sneak I’ve ever seen, which actually has been a reminder to me to commit to my crazy ideas, cause that is the only way to TRULY pull off a great play.
So if you are looking for a blog about the real life application and conversational nature of business and marketing, like you are chatting with your friends on a street corner, then The Curbside Marketer is the place for you.
