BlogCrush – Marie McKinney-Oates
Every week I’ll be updating The Webb with a little ditty about my most recent blogcrush – a blog that I follow frequently and find inspiration, laughter and deep thoughts from. You know who they are, those bloggers that you’ve never even met but you feel a strange connection…you almost have a little crush on them? These are most definitely folks on my blog roll, and if you are reading and subscribing to The Webb they should be on yours, too.
I don’t even remember when I first started following McKinney-Oates Cereal. It was quite possibly when I stumbled across a post from one of my former #BlogCrush’s about the Top 8 under-appreciated blogs by Gen Y women. Regardless, I don’t think I laugh harder at any other posts in my reader than I do at Marie’s posts about marriage, career, domestic chores, sex, life and Letters To Her Step-Cats. It’s totally that laugh along WITH you not AT you. She just draws you in with her humor and optimism on such real topics. Oh, and she hates doing dishes as much as I do!
According to Marie’s About page, her blog is pretty much about being married with cats. Marie is pretty cool, she actually owns her own business as a pre-marital counselor (PS – She’s a great pre-marital counselor, I base this especially on her Bound Together Workshops and the fact that she has declared October “National Make Out Month.”) She has a Master’s of Marriage and Family Therapy and seriously, who wouldn’t want a counselor who says things like “I started Nashville Marriage Studio because I believe in relationships and their power to make us better people.”
The greatest thing about Marie, however, is that with her passion and education she could TOTALLY be an uppity know-it-all about love and marriage. But she TOTALLY isn’t. Marie blogs about the REALITY of relationships and marriage. Sometimes she loves her husband (Mark) so unabashedly it’s adorable and only slightly irritating. And sometimes she points out all the little things that drive her batty about him and it makes everyone realize that love isn’t perfect and sunshine and Care Bears. She’s one of my favorite smug marrieds out there.
So if you like to read about life, love and happiness (or sometimes unhappiness, like while doing dishes) while holding your stomach from laughing hysterically, check out McKinney-Oates Cereal.
