October Monthly Goal Meet-Up
When Rebecca at modite started a new series on her website about Monthly Goal Meet-Ups I was intrigued. Of course we all know that I don’t make any quick and rash decisions, so I had to see how the first one “shook down.” I don’t know why I even questioned the wisdom of my first #BlogCrush.

So here were the September goals I posted on Rebecca’s blog as a sort of toe in the water.
1.) Complete redesign and transfer to WordPress for the Webb Andrew Norcross, I cannot thank you enough. I know that the entire reason this happened was the help of this AMAZING web designer and his ability to kick my ass at 11:30 at night when I figured there was no way I’d ever be able to figure out how to program something. And as of September 24th I am live with a redesigned WordPress website. (PS – If you are looking at redesigning or moving your site, I can’t recommend him enough!)
2.) Run as long as I can 3 times a week / 30 min yoga sessions 3 times a week I didn’t get this one done, not even close. I’ve gotta admit, I’m really scared of it. After my flare-up earlier this summer I know I don’t ever want to end up like that again. Exhausted, shaking, scared on the side of a mountain. I’ve kicked up the yoga a little bit, not the running though. I used to run a lot. I don’t want to be scared anymore, but fear is hard.
3.) Meet with potential investor and extreme COI for freelancing opportunities I’m crossing this off, but in truth I didn’t meet with either of the people I had in mind for this. I emailed them, and saw them each in group situations in which they averted their eyes, dodged my presence and in general obviously did not want to discuss with me. SO I decided instead to join a networking group with LOTS of COI’s and pitched a similar investor-type idea to a non-profit, which they are thinking of taking me up on.
4.) Set up a new budget with extreme savings flow for Summer ‘10 As I started working on a budget I realized that the only way I was going to get a high enough savings flow is to get a second job. Does it suck? Yes. Will I make due for my dreams? Yes. Am I finding a pretty great gig? Hells yes!

The best part of writing out your goals and holding yourself accountable to their accomplishment are the results. You will always have these things at the front of your mind when you know others are looking at them and judging helping you along the way.
And you sometimes learn things about yourself and your goals. So I am going to add to my Monthly Goal Meet-Up wrap-ups the TWO things I learned the month before.
- Sometimes you have to adjust your goals to a more reasonable “mini-goal” to eventually achieve them – My workout goal is a big nut to crack. Perhaps if I instead work my way up to that it will be more achievable.
- Sometimes you have to accept that there are goals that have barriers beyond your control (like a COI and investor literally hide from you!) Instead of accepting defeat you have to be able to adjust your goals.
And now for my October Monthly Goals
1. Post #BlogCrush every Tuesday in October and two others posts (incl. guest posts I promised to other sites)
2. Meet co-workers at gym 2 times a week/continue yoga for three 30 min sessions
3. Finalize bartered agreement with non-profit and secure two freelancing articles
4. Sign accounts up with mint.com and input budget
What are your goals this October? I’d love to know!
