Give ‘Em The Old Razzie-Dazzie

16 March 2010 No Comment

Sometimes there are people in Hollywood that we completely connect with and think are the coolest.  I mean, we definitely don’t know them, and the idea of a person is probably a complete farce to the person they actually are.

I know all this and yet there are still some that I feel are genuine people who just happen to be famous.   I feel this way about Sandra Bullock.  I feel that way even more after she made history last week.

Sandra Bullock became the first woman to win an Oscar and one other special award in the same weekend.

In the same weekend that Sandra Bullock posted a Best Actress Oscar win for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side (you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you need to see this film NOW!) she also landed the Worst Actress Razzie for her role as Mary Horowitz in All About Steve.

For those unfamiliar with the Razzie awards, basically they are the ying to the Oscar’s yang.  For all that the Oscars celebrate achievement in cinema over the previous year the Razzie’s celebrate dis-honorable mentions in the cinematic arena.  The “awards show” always airs the same weekend as the Oscars and generally features such cinema winners as Sylvester Stallone and Pamela Anderson.  It follows the same format with nominees, winners, acceptance speeches, etc.  Course not many folks in the Woods of Holly will step foot within a 3 block radius of the awards when they are happening.

But Sandra Bullock?  On the same weekend her stomach was in knots going up against Meryl Streep for an Oscar win in what has been a tight competition between the two, what did she do?

Sandra Bullock showed up at the Golden Raspberry Awards show and gave a full acceptance speech for her performance!

I’ve gotta say, that takes some guts.  That takes some confidence.  That takes the ability to be a multi-million dollar garnishing internationally famous actress who can still laugh at herself.

It takes an amazing person to win an Academy Award.  It takes an even more amazing person to show up the same weekend and accept an award saying she delivered the WORST acting performance of the year.

Those are traits I wish we saw in more of our “celebrities.”  Heck, it’s traits I wish I saw more in the people in my everyday life!

She made sure that people were not laughing at her, they were instead laughing WITH her.

And it made me adore her even more.
