One Thing Elisa Doesn’t Need

7 December 2010 No Comment

If you asked me to give you a list of the most prolific and brilliant minds of our generation, Sam Davidson would absolutely be included on the very short list.  When Sam and I first talked about him guest posting here to promote the book, I was immediately on board.  Heck, I’m one of the authors endorsing the book on his site (Sidebar – SERIOUSLY SAM!?!?  I looked at that page and just about died seeing my name and words amongst those people – thank you for believing so much in me with such a simple act!)

He asked if he could review my site and articles and posts and write about the one thing that I didn’t need in my life.  Filled with apprehension and extreme curiosity at what he would come up with, I agreed.  I was honored and touched that he “read me” so well with this guest post:

One Thing Elisa Doesn’t Need: A Boring Story to Tell

Having followed Elisa online now for quite some time, I continue to be amazed at the excitement in her life. Of course, we readers get a small glimpse of it, only seeing what she chooses to publish here. But, in nearly every post, we’re taken on some kind of adventure.

There’s the one about fantasy football. What high school was like. Why you’ve got to make time for friends. She also writes about dating and writing and other good/funny/interesting/poignant stuff. In all of this lies a lesson for those of us looking to find and live our passion.Finding an Interesting and Meaningful Passion For Your Life

I believe the word needs more passionate people.

This is one of the main reasons I wrote 50 Things Your Life Doesn’t Need. It’s a guide to helping you get rid of what doesn’t matter so you can focus on what does. And, the same is true in reverse. Once you find what’s most important to you, everything that pales in comparison can come and go.

When Elisa writes about interesting and meaningful things, I’m reminded that those two adjectives should describe our passion. If you think your passion is boring, I’ve got news for you: it’s probably not really your passion. Or, if you don’t find it personally fulfilling, then it’s not a passion, either. Sounds to me like you’ve got a chore on your hands.

Passions are meant to be fun, and so is the discovery of them. Yes, it’s serious work (it took me nearly four years, which I detail in the book). But, when you find it, you’ll know it because it consumes you. It drives you. It motivates, challenges, humbles, and excites you.

Elisa doesn’t need boring stories. And you don’t need boring passions.

So feel free to explore your passion with excitement and abandon.

That way, you can make sure you find one that stirs your soul.

Other things (actually in the book) that Elisa doesn’t need:
#8: Dishonesty
#13: Unpassionate Activism
#31: Unvoiced Love
#38: Someone Else’s Expectations
