Ah, yes. Only attractive, athletic, vivacious, engaging, ambitious, etc people get action and play. If it isn’t Hollywood or magazines or society cramming it down our throats, it’s that little voice that gnaws at the back of our mind. Reminding us that we just aren’t good enough. That we aren’t skinny or pretty or “insert appropriately superficial adjective here” enough.
I am a girl who struggles with my weight.
I’m also funny. And smart. And kind. And talented. And sometimes pretty if not beautiful.
But at the end of the day I’m also a girl who weighs much more than she should.

Magazines still use the same stick thin models for their fashion spread even though the article directly proceeding states that they think all women should love themselves regardless of their size. Tabloids tout the “fat actress” who has *gasp* slipped dangerously into Size 8 territory. Online dating sites have statistically lower click-thrus of women who are Average or A Few Extra Pounds or Looks Like The Majority Of Women.

I sometimes worry that I’m not a “good enough” feminist.
Sounds crazy, I know. I mean really, where is this imaginary bar that measures one ability/aptitude/competence as a feminst.

When I was young and foolish I decided that my true calling in life would be in Public Relations. I interviewed all over, with absolutely no degree or experience and a 6 month “lull” in my employment history. Finally I landed an interview at a city tourism department as their website administrator and PR assistant. I was thru the moon!
